FAQ
What is SORA
SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) is the standard framework developed by EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) for evaluating the safety of drone operations in the specific category. It helps determine the required level of safety, operational limitations, and mitigations needed before performing a UAS mission.
Who needs SORA
Any organization or operator planning drone operations that go beyond the open category (for example, BVLOS, urban areas, or flights near uninvolved people) typically needs to perform a SORA to obtain operational authorization from the competent aviation authority.
Where is SORA applicable
SORA is
mandatorily applied in all EASA Member States, including, for example, Germany,
Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In addition, it is ofted
adopted as a recognized and reliable means of compliance for safety assessments
in several other countries, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia,
the United Arab Emirates, and Australia.
Why is a SORA assessment important
A SORA ensures that your drone operation meets safety requirements. It identifies potential risks to people and airspace users and defines mitigations that make your mission legally compliant and safe.
